About Dr JJ Khong

Dr Jwu Jin Khong is an Ophthalmic Surgeon specializing in Oculoplastics and Cataract Surgery.  Her interests include;

  • Eyelid surgery and reconstruction

  • Tear drainage (nasolacrimal) surgery to improve watery eyes

  • Orbital surgery including thyroid related eye disease & tumours

Dr Khong is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and the Austin Hospital.  She is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne.  She is a Fellow of the Australia & New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons, and an International Member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr Khong is passionate about eye research, and has a PhD in thyroid-associated orbitopathy.  She continues to pursue Oculoplastic research, with a special interest in the clinical and gene expression aspects of thyroid-associated orbitopathy.  The quality of this research led to her receiving the prestigious Dermot Roden Prize from the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and being invited to Amsterdam for a 6 month sabbatical with the renowned Oculoplastic Surgeon, Professor Maarten Mourits.

As a dedicated teacher, Dr Khong is involved in the training of Medical Students at the University of Melbourne and Ophthalmology Trainees at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital.


Dr Khong graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School, where she received the Proxime Accessit Prize in Surgery, She continued her Ophthalmic Training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre before returning to the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital for further Oculoplastic Subspecialty Training.  

In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr Khong is multilingual, being fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
