About Dr Sue Cochrane

Dr Cochrane is an Eye Surgeon with expertise in Cataract Surgery and the treatment of Macular & Retinal conditions.  Areas of particular interest include;

  • Cataract surgical advances

  • Macular Degeneration

  • Diabetes-related eye conditions

  • Vein Occlusions / other retinal blood vessel blockages

  • Intravitreal Injection techniques and laser 

She is also proficient in the management of glaucoma, including laser and stent procedures.

Dr Cochrane consults and is a Director of Eye Specialists Greensborough and Armadale Eye Clinic.  She has held public appointments at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital where she was involved in the Medical Retina Clinic and Uveitis Clinic as well as performing Cataract Surgery.  She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.

Dr Cochrane completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Melbourne, obtaining Honours in all subjects.  After participating in the Physician Training Program at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, she completed her Ophthalmology Training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH).  She subsequently undertook Fellowship training at RVEEH in Comprehensive Ophthalmology / Cataract Surgery, before travelling to the United Kingdom in order to work with Professor Andrew Dick in the areas of Macular & Retinal conditions and Uveitis.

Awards and prizes received by Dr Cochrane include the prestigious K.G. Howsam Medal and Cedric Cohen Medal from the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (awarded to the top Trainee in Australia and New Zealand), as well as the RANZCO / ARVO Travelling Scholarship.
